Intro to the United States

Updated: Mar 12, 2024

Happy Tuesday! With my buddy back to school, he doesn’t need as much planned out to do but I’m still here for several hours on Tuesdays so we’re going to talk about the United States. One state per week will take a year. So today, by way of introduction, we looked at a globe and talked about where we live in relation to where the beach is, and where Mickey Mouse lives. I will make sure we learn the pledge of allegiance as well!

Today we talked about each state having its own bird and flower, so we made paper flowers. Using colorful tissue paper, we stacked one piece upon another and folded it longways back-and-forth like a giant fan, then using a chenille stem (we used to call these pipe cleaners) to secure the middle of the fan tightly and by leaving enough length for a stem, we then carefully pulled each color open to make a flower.

We made a bald eagle finger puppet traced from their hands. We cut some brown construction paper the size of the tube and glued it onto the tube. Then we traced their hands, cut them out, and glued the hands to the back. We then glued some cotton balls onto the top of the tube to look like white feathers. We finished by gluing on some googly eyes and a beak and talons cut from yellow construction paper.

These turned out sooooo cute!!
