BRAIN-STORMING
We started developing our lesson plan based on granddaughter's mermaid board book. We purchased some kinetic sand and some Trident gum for fun and yum!
HOME EC/Cooking:
We made crab sandwiches (ham and cheese on croissants) by using a star-shaped cookie cutter for the cheese tongues and by gluing candy eyeballs to toothpicks for the eyes. We made dolphin cups by using banana and blueberries. We used jello for our ocean and placed some swedish fish in the water while we used vanilla pudding for the beach and sprinkles for seashells. You could also use graham cracker crumbs for sand. Vanilla wafers, icing, and a candy pearl were used for the clams. Blue kool-aid and more swedish fish made perfect ocean water.
Note: Some of the food ideas were from internet searches and some were original
MATH: The number 8. We glued some googly eyes and 8 streamer tentacles on a dollar store paper lantern.
HISTORY/GREEK MYTHOLOGY:
We made King Triton's Trident from a dollar store dowel and a gold chenille stem (pipe cleaner).
ART: Grandson made a paper plate octopus and used the watercolor drip technique to make colorful jellyfish. We made pearl necklaces.
SCIENCE:
Besides playing with kinetic sand, Gramma found a plastic container with two-parts at the dollar store and we put ocean water in one side and sand in the other to make an ocean shaker.
Gramma is very tired!
